ABOUT

My name is Kyle Buchanan, and I am the Head Coach of the Women’s Alberta Ski Team. While I did not grow up as a high-level ski racer, skiing—and sport in general—has always been a major part of my life.

My parents introduced my brother and me to ski racing at a young age because they wanted us to learn how to ski and thought it would be a better option than traditional ski lessons. Little did they know that ski racing and coaching would become my career 30 years later.

I grew up in Edmonton, and it remains home for me today. Before joining the Alberta Ski Team, I was the Program Director with Snow Valley Racing in Edmonton. Prior to that, I coached athletes across all age groups as I worked my way up through my home club.

Outside of ski racing, much of my life revolves around cycling. It became a passion of mine growing up, and I still enjoy riding and racing all types of bikes today. During the off-season, you can usually find me racing on the road chasing Strava KOM’s, exploring gravel routes, or ripping mountain bike trails.

Overall, my path has been shaped by a lifelong connection to sport, a deep appreciation for ski racing, and the communities that have supported me along the way. Whether I am working with athletes on the hill or spending time on the bike, I am motivated by the same values: hard work, growth, and a love of being active outdoors.
