Josh Benge

Josh Benge is the Athletic Director at Alberta Alpine, where he works to support the development of alpine ski racing across Alberta and leads the organization’s high-performance pathway, including the Alberta Ski Team.

Josh’s education and background is in Civil engineering and high-performance sport, with experience working across all levels and ages of alpine ski racing. His career has included working with athletes and programs in Canada, the United States and internationally, including several seasons with the U.S. Ski Team and the Korean National Ski Team.

As Athletic Director, Josh works closely with Alberta Alpine’s athletes, coaches, clubs, volunteers and partners to strengthen the provincial system and create opportunities for athletes to reach their potential. He is passionate about building strong foundations at the club level while creating a clear and effective pathway for athletes who aspire to compete at the provincial, national and international levels. He believes that high performance is about more than results, it is about developing resilient, accountable and confident young people while giving athletes the tools and environment they need to pursue ambitious goals.

When he isn’t working or skiing, Josh has a bit of an unusual obsession: he is an avid reef keeper and spends his time maintaining a saltwater aquarium and coral reef. He enjoys the patience, precision and calmness that come with creating a healthy reef ecosystem.

During the summer months, Josh trades his ski boots for running shoes and enjoys trail running in the mountains. Living in the Bow Valley, he considers himself fortunate to be surrounded by some of the best terrain in the world for both skiing and running.
