Old Phones, New Opportunities. Alberta Alpine Welcomes Dr. Phone Fix!

Our new partnership turns used smartphones into funding for grassroots ski racing

Have an old smartphone collecting dust in a drawer? It could soon help put another young skier on the slopes!  Alberta Alpine is excited to announce a new three-year partnership with Dr. Phone Fix (TSXV: DPF), an award-winning, Alberta-founded technology company and our new title sponsor of the North Zone Nancy Greene League Race Series. Together, we’re launching an innovative fundraising initiative that will help our member clubs raise money to support their programs, while promoting sustainability through the reuse and responsible recycling of electronics.

The concept is simple: Alberta Alpine families, friends and supporters will be encouraged to donate their used smartphones through participating ski clubs. Dr. Phone Fix will assess the collected phones and pay trade-in-value, creating a new fundraising opportunity for our clubs. Reusable devices will be refurbished and given a second life, while those that cannot be reused will be responsibly recycled. Privacy is a priority, so Dr. Phone Fix securely wipes device data as part of its processing procedures.

Best of all, 75% of the net proceeds generated from each club’s collection efforts will go directly back to that club, helping fund coaching, equipment, athlete development and other programming. The remaining 25% will support Alberta Alpine’s broader initiatives to strengthen ski racing across the province.

We’ll launch the program with two participating North Zone clubs in November, adding two more clubs approximately every three weeks throughout the ski season. This phased approach will allow us to build momentum, share successes and give participating clubs the tools they need to make their collection campaigns successful.

Every phone collected represents an opportunity to put more resources into grassroots ski racing. Whether those funds help a club purchase equipment, support coaching or make programs more affordable for families, the benefits will be felt throughout our ski racing community.

Supporting Skiers for Life

This partnership is another example of Alberta Alpine’s commitment to making ski racing more accessible and sustainable for families. Alongside our First Tracks – Skiers for Life initiative, which provides financial incentives for new young athletes and coaches, the Dr. Phone Fix program reflects our broader strategy: investing in grassroots participation, strengthening our member clubs and building a vibrant alpine skiing community for generations to come.

So don’t throw out that old phone just yet – it might have one more great performance left in it!
