Continuing Education and Certification Pathways: Roles and Responsibilities

Alberta Alpine Ski Association

Competency Based Educational Training is nothing new in the world of big business or law, but to alpine skiing we are still making the transition to the CBET system and the challenges are apparent. Alberta Alpine is committed to provide training opportunities to help coaches towards full certification and licensing. It is AASA's vision to have ALL clubs deliver in house coach training, and development sessions which fit with coach education initiatives and pathways, and licensing goals and objectives.

Coaches and Club Responsibilities

Coaches responsibilities are greater than ever before. To become a fully certified coach in the present system, a coach needs to very proactive and take advantage of ALL education and development opportunities to stay current, and to keep a valid coach license. From season to season a coach is expected to gather education credits towards ACA/CSCF licensing, as well as continue to attend the appropriate education sessions to move towards full certification in the CSCF education pathways.

The clubs responsibilities are to understand what options are available to implement ongoing education in the club, and what to do to help the coach move through the pathways towards full certification. A club has great responsibilities to help develop key mentors and leaders within it's structure to help train new coaches, and experienced coaches alike. The over all goal is that a club can run most of their own training to count for education credits towards licensing and particular blocks towards certification provided they have trained CSCF mentors.

It is Alberta Alpine' intention that ALL clubs consider developing several qualified coach mentors to help provide education to coaches, and move them through the education pathways. Alberta Alpine is dedicated to training mentors and coaches in the province of Alberta.
