The Regional Series is a North Zone-based program intended to assist athletes in the transition from the Learn to Train stage of skill development to the Learn to Race stage. Another goal of the program is to provide a competitive series for 12 to 20 year old skiers, which requires less travel and time commitment than the Provincial U14 and U16 series.
Each season, Regional athletes will have a total of competitor points earned in all series races to determine his/her placing within the Provincial series. The top 2 male and female athletes will receive awards.
Congratulations to the following winners for this season’s Regional Series:
U14 Female Mila Tulik (Edmonton Ski Club):
Mila’s passion for ski racing started at age 9, when she became a proud member of the ESC Alpine team. Always happiest when on her skis, Mila is a dedicated athlete and a passionate ambassador of the sport. As a first year U14, inspired by meeting her role model, Mikaela Shiffrin, Mila had a strong season with podium finishes and a new sense of evolution, in both training and competition. With much to be proud of, Mila looks forward to returning to the slopes and building on these experiences.
U14 Male Joey Gouthro (Fort McMurray Ski Club):
Highlights for Joey’s season were his 3 first place finishes, and qualifying for the Arctic Winter Games. Joey is part of our Enhanced Program which involves participating in a pre-season camp, increased training time during the season, and in-depth exercises in areas like performance analysis and theoretical comprehension. Away from the hill, Joey is passionate about golf, volleyball, basketball and his dog Skippy! This season he was very focused on his goals of winning the Regional Series and qualifying for the AWG’s.
U16 Female Mikayla Gibbon (Snow Valley Ski Club):
Mikayla started off her season with 2 podium results at the first Regional race event of the season, Red Deer GS Series. She finished 6 of 6 events on the podium this season, including both the U16 category and the overall category. Mikayla also won the overall at Snow Valley Racing’s home event, the annual Snow Valley Racing Invitational.
U16 Male Emmitt Pollitt (Red Deer Ski Club):
Emmitt has shown he is willing to take many of the necessary steps both on and off the hill over the last few years. His dedication and attention to detail has definitely proven itself. Many highlights this season as he finished strong in every race he entered and continues to improve on training days. He is a smart athlete who is always asking questions and looking to up his game. We all hope to work with him in the future as we are all aware of his growth both physically and mentally.
U19 Female – Hunter Schmidt (Snow Valley Ski Club):
Hunter is a long time Snow Valley Racing athlete, who has been with the club since she began her career at age 5. This was Hunter’s first season back from a knee injury that caused her to miss the entire 2018/19 season. Her hard work and dedication to the sport is second to none as shown by her comeback from injury. Hunter stormed back on the ski racing scene this season with 2 wins at the first event of the season after not having raced for over a year. She was on the podium at every event she participated in this season.
U19 Male – Nathan Osztovits (Snow Valley Ski Club):
Nathan was on the podium at every event he entered this season. Overall wins in Red Deer, Rabbit Hill, and Snow Valley Racing’s home event, the annual Snow Valley Racing Invitational. Proving to be one of the hardest working, and most committed athletes on the team, Nathan set the bar almost every training day.
