From U12 to the World Cup, Sporting Life Market Mall Service Shop is Best in the West!

January 31, 2020

When Sporting Life came to Calgary and opened their second location in the city at CF Market Mall, the intention behind the service shop was to build a one-stop location that provided the best service for ski racers of any age. Less than three years later, the shop has brought together not only the best possible equipment for high-performance ski service, but is also armed with the expertise of World Cup boot fitters and ski service technicians. In the race department, you can find everything needed from head-to-toe, in-stock or within reach year-round.

Inside the bustling service shop at the front of the store, the walls are lined with race bibs and gate panels collected over the past decades from the World Cup circuit, not to mention personalized thank you notes from athletes who have reached the top of World Cup success. Passing through the race department, it is not uncommon to rub shoulders with athletes and coaches from the National Team dropping off or picking up skis from Boyd Callaway, or under the boot-fitting microscope of Sandy Webster, as the pair dedicate their time and years of experience to providing the best possible service for athletes of any age.

Accolades from World Cup athletes can be found throughout the shop, including these notes from the Canada Ski Cross Team, and recent Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup Val Thorens Champion Kris Mahler.

“What started out as a vision, bringing together the best equipment and staff to provide precise race service to Calgary, has become a reality, and it has been really rewarding watching that happen,” commented Sandy Webster, on a day when the shop was lined with new skis for Alberta Ski Team athletes, skis in for service from the National Team, and a full-rack of race skis of all sizes awaiting Boyd’s personalized touch.

Now a major sporting goods retailer in Canada, it wasn’t long ago that Sporting Life began as a hardcore race shop in Toronto. As Jerry Rynda, VP Business Operations for Sporting Life commented, “Racing is in our DNA,” and with that focus at heart, Sporting Life uses its size to expand race product offering, and acts as a hub for high-performance ski teams as they travel the country.

“We can program and test a grind for a race ski here in Calgary, and an athlete can land in Ottawa for a race series and have that exact grind applied in-store there,” added Sandy, “it’s our goal to be your race centre of excellence in every major ski-area city across the country.”
