Canmore, AB — Alberta Alpine is excited to share the group of talented and dedicated athletes selected to the 2019/20 Alberta Ski Team Training Group.

Following two successful spring training camps at Nakiska Ski Area and Sunshine Village, the Alberta Ski Team staff and High-Performance Committee of Alberta Alpine feel this cohort of athletes have shown performance and potential both on and off the snow and will represent Alberta in an incredibly positive manner for the upcoming ski season.

In addition to the list below, many top performing athletes were invited to join the spring training camps who continue to show great promise for their future development. These athletes will be offered collaborative opportunities to join the Alberta Ski Team for training and competition as it aligns with their individual athlete plan. With Alberta Alpine’s renewed vision we look forward to supporting the growth of this next generation of ski racing in Alberta.

The Alberta Ski Team, along with the other provincial ski teams across Canada, have an expanded mandate to elevate athletes given the redistribution of responsibilities at the high-performance development level. This includes creating and delivering programs that promote skill advancement to the National C-Team level, NCAA, or other pathways through ski racing that each athlete may desire as part of their journey.

At this time in our sport, we have chosen to remain focused on creating opportunities and environments that, first and foremost, are in the best interests of the athlete, promote inclusion while focusing on high-performance, and provide a platform to elevate athletic, academic, and personal success.

With this in mind, Alberta Alpine is working to forge new partnerships and support systems for athletes, including strength and conditioning, medical support, nutrition support, mental performance support, ski service, equipment, and post-secondary educational support.

Alberta Ski Team athletes will receive coveted access to the Canadian Sport Institute (CSI) training facility at Winsport’s Canada Olympic Park and will participate in a strength and conditioning program delivered by the same Integrated Service Team as the Canadian Ski Team. Additionally, Group 23 Sports Medicine will offer a completely integrated medical support and return-to-snow program for athletes. The professional staff at CSI will also deliver nutritional training and coaching, mental performance support, and baseline testing and monitoring at their world-class facility. In addition, Alberta Alpine is in discussions with the University of Calgary to strengthen academic ties and support opportunities for Alberta Ski Team athletes.

Alberta Alpine is also working to deliver ski service support to athletes through our current partnerships, in an effort to alleviate stresses placed on athletes during competition and training and ensure that athletes are skiing on equipment of utmost quality.

Alberta Alpine is passionate about supporting each athlete in their journey and has a motivated an impressive group of alumni for mentorship and guidance in the areas of academics (including NCAA), National Team focus, and future employment opportunities.

As we embark into a new season, we are committed to continuing to elevate our provincial program to be the pinnacle of performance and support.

To the athletes below, congratulations on this achievement! Your hard work and perseverance have gotten you this far, and we look forward to helping you continue your progression in high-performance ski racing. Also, congratulations and thank you to your parents, coaches, and clubs for supporting you in your ski racing journey. We all know it takes a village, and each of you is a true testament to that support.

Alberta Alpine would also like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors of the Alberta Ski Team: Western GMC Buick, Sporting Life, Nakiska Ski Area, Pro Sport Protection, Group 23 Sports Medicine, CSI Calgary, EFW Radiology, Descente International, and SkiBig3.

The 2019/20 Alberta Ski Team will begin with testing at CSI Calgary the week of May 20-24, and the final confirmation of the team will be made no later than October 30, as outlined in Alberta Alpine Policy 3.1. It is the intention and expectation of Alberta Alpine that each athlete named will meet full-team status in October.
