Canmore, AB – Alpine Canada has selected a total of seven women and eight men to represent Canada at the upcoming FIS Alpine World Championships hosted in Are, Sweden, February 4-17.

The team includes veterans and up-and-coming athletes, seven of 15 competing in their first FIS World Championships. The Alberta contingent named to the team includes four Alberta Alpine Alumni members, Erik Read (Calgary/Banff Alpine Racers), Jeffrey Read (Calgary/Banff Alpine Racers), and Trevor Philp (Calgary/Banff Alpine Racers), and Amelia Smart (Invermere, BC/Team Panorama).

“Having these boys from BAR, along with Amelia from Team Panorama representing Canada and Alberta on the World Championship stage should be inspiring to every athlete in an Alberta Alpine Member Club program and on the Alberta Ski Team, and is a true testament to the strength of the programming our clubs are delivering. Erik, Jeff, Trevor, and Amelia all represent the true athletic spirit – often returning home to Mt. Norquay and Panorama Mountain Resort to ski with the club athletes, and regularly giving their time and support back to us at Alberta Alpine. I am very proud of each of them, and all their teammates headed to Sweden to represent Canada,” commented Alberta Alpine President Rob McCloskey.
