Greetings from Saas-Fee , Switzerland.
The Alberta Ski Team is finally all together, training on the Fee Glacier situated below the Allalinhorn, reaching 4027m. Conditions have been absolutely perfect and the world knows it. There are many World Cup and Europa Cup teams here right now. We are training along some of the worlds best skiers including Henrik Kristoffersen. I’m proud to say that this small group is really starting to gel and we are working hard both on and off the snow.
A typical day in Saas Fee has us waking at 6 am for a traditional Swiss breakfast with muesli, bread, meats and cheeses. After a short walk in the village (there are no cars allowed in Saas Fee) we board the first of 3 lifts to the top, gaining 2000m elevation. The final lift is a train travelling in a tunnel through the mountain. Once on top we are greeted with fabulous sunrises and watch the sunlight slowly sweep across the glacier. We are typically skiing by 8:30 am and spend the next 4-5 hours training on the glacier. Today was a great day on the hill and is a testament to the kind of work the Alberta Ski Team is putting in. Today we were the last ones on the hill for our last 4 runs. We had the entire glacier to ourselves!
After skiing it’s time for a quick lunch back at the Hotel Tenne around 1:30 pm. Then it is on to the next day’s preparation including dryland, video and ski tuning. We try to have it all done before dinner so that we can enjoy that time together and relax as a team as the day ends. After dinner, we are usually blessed with the traditional Swiss Alp sound of an accordion in the hotel lobby. It truly is a blessing to be visiting such a unique town, full of beautiful sights and sounds, nestled at the end of a majestic mountain valley.
The hosts of the Hotel Tenne, Richard and Emanuela are absolutely lovely and have brought me in with open arms. I would like to personally thank them for treating me so well. I know the Alberta Ski Team has stayed here for many years in the past, and now I know why.
Tschüss!!! From Switzerland
