(Canmore, AB) – The second stop on the 2017/18 Alpine Insurance Alberta Cup FIS Series landed in Panorama Mountain Village on Monday, December 18th only to hit one of the bigger snow storms of the season so far. All hands and skis (volunteers, coaches, and athletes) went on deck and with the help on the ski areas’ snowcat machines the scheduled giant slalom racers were complete over an hour after originally scheduled.
A large number of Canadian Development Team, US college and foreign athletes stayed over from the NorAm Cup series held just prior making for extremely deep fields – stacked with lots of talent. In total, 96 ladies and 122 men started the series which saw a second day of stormy weather on Tuesday the 19th for the second GS race. The series then witched to slalom for the final two days, Wednesday and Thursday with improved visibility and the completion of the program.
Stand out podium performances for Alberta came from Cassidy Gray (PANO), Liam Wallace (AST), Jeffrey Read (DEVO), Robby Greig (UNM), Stephanie Profitt (BMA) and Jocelyn McCarthy (MSU). Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to Panorama Mountain Village, Team Pano and Alpine Insurance for their support of this fantastic race series.
