The final day of September was a busy Saturday for Alberta Alpine. The morning’s Annual General Meeting began at 10am at WinSport in Calgary where representatives of the membership were presented with the Association’s financial statements for the past year, approved next year’s auditor, received presentations from the chair, members of staff and the Respect in Sport group. The members present passed a motion to expand the current board from 13 to 14 total positions. The by-laws allow up to a maximum of 15 director’s positions. The results of annual election for Directors positions with the Board of Alberta Alpine is as follows:

At the closing of the AGM, board chair Robb Beeman presented outgoing directors present, Scott Wallace and Bob Leitch with their personalized silver belt buckles and thanked them both for their good service to the Association over many years. Among other posts, Scott Wallace chaired the A&G committee and Bob Leitch served as Board Chair and most recently as Past Chair.

In the first meeting of the new board which followed the AGM at 1pm, Joanne Gray was elected Chair, Gregg Ferguson as Vice-Chair and David Chen as Executive Committee Member. Robb Beeman will serve as past Chair for the coming year.

At 4pm, Alberta Alpine was pleased to welcome members and friends to Oktoberfest held just south of the city near Spruce Meadows. The festivities had well over 150 people enjoyed the beverages, brats and music throughout the afternoon and evening. The Alpine Insurance Alberta Ski Team and coaching staff were introduced as they prepared to say farewell embarking early the next morning for their second on-snow camp in Switzerland. Special thanks for the generosity of  the Chen family, Village Brewery, The Dumpling Hero and all those who donated to support the Friends of Alberta Alpine campaign to help support Alberta’s developing ski racers.

Alberta Alpine’s next major event will be the Canadian Rockies Ski Racing Hall of Fame on November 8th at Hotel Art’s in Calgary. All are welcome to join the celebration of this year’s inductees from 5-8pm.
