In 2018 Bow Valley Quikies (BVQ) will be celebrating its 40th year since Mike and BonnieWiegele founded the club in 1978. Soon after the Banff Alpine Racers (BAR) was established to allow graduates to move into a more competitive racing program. Banff Mount Norquay has always been the home of BVQ/BAR and the partnership we have continued to build and improve upon has provided a venue for thousands of kids to learn to ski and race. There are now longstanding annual events hosted by BAR/BVQ and Mount Norquay including our U12 Caribou Cup, which sees over 200 excited young racers from the province come to Mount Norquay for this event. Our annual FIS race in early December kicks off the race season for up and coming FIS racers from all over the world on the heals of the early season training at Mount Norquay.
Training at Mount Norquay has seen major improvements over the last 3 seasons with the newly created run, Silver Legacy on the Mystic Chair. The name for this run was derived from the recent success of current BAR National Team racers (Erik Read and Trevor Philp) who won the Sliver Medal at the 2015 Beaver Creek World Championships Team Event.
The past weekend (April 1 & 2), Banff Mount Norquay and BAR hosted the 12th annual Bozocup and Kindercup Dual SL races. This event introduces many young racers from across Canada to racing dual format, which prepares the next generation of racers for the Team Events that are now medal events at both Olympic and World Championship races.
With the 2016/17 season drawing to a close we look forward
to 2017/18 and welcoming the ski community to celebrate our 40th anniversary!
