“No, not Snow Valley, THE Valley” has been a common refrain in our racing history! Every year we are confused with Snow Valley a little less — hopefully this profile furthers the cause!
Our club trains at Valley Ski Hill just outside Alliance, Alberta on the banks of the Battle River. It’s ok if you have to go google map that right now … we understand!
Valley Alpine has been in existence since the mid-80s starting as part of the Nancy Greene Ski League. It has been very exciting over the past several years to enrol our second generation of Valley Alpiner’s into the club — and of course to have their parents back as coaches! The tremendous contribution of parent coaches, support from our small hill and our annual ski-a-thon allow us to provide an extremely cost-effective and dynamic training environment.
As a club that resides a long way from any major center we pride ourselves on being responsive and inclusive of all the children that come to us. We have welcomed special needs, visually impaired and para-athletes to train within the program. Several of our coaches are CADS instructors and have completed the Para module through CSCF.
Around 10 years ago, after a brief absence, our club started competing in North Zone races again. It has been a great experience to connect with all the clubs and attend both NGSL and Regional events. We are very grateful to all the clubs that host the fantastic races we have the privilege of attending. Sunridge Ski Team has given our athletes great support in Ski Cross and, for the first time this year, we have athletes competing in SX at a FIS level.
We look forward to continued growth in the future and providing a fun environment for families to connect in sport. We can’t wait to start enrolling generation number three!!
