The team has just completed another race series at Nakiska, the U-19 Canadian Championships. We were all very well prepared for the series by our coaches, however most of our outcomes were below expectations. Despite being confident and motivated to do well, nobody was able to find the podium at the U19 Championships, but that is ski racing. It is just another part of the sport. We worked hard. We tried hard and we skied hard, but the results were just not there. Now, we are moving on to another race series out at Red Mountain in Rossland, BC. We have to be able to find all the positives from the last race series and carry those over into the next series while leaving all of the negative aspects behind. In ski racing, it is alright to be discouraged and disappointed, however it is not alright to dwell on it.
We are more than half way through the season and, in my opinion, the team spirit is at an all-time high. We are all working exceptionally well together. We are one gigantic family and we support each other through the good times and the bad times. Although ski racing is an individual sport, teammates play such a crucial role in the individual’s success. They help motivate you and they give you someone to chase in training and races. We are very fortunate to have such camaraderie on our team.
